Parametric Spotlight - Aevum Benches in Qatar Airport VIP Lounge

During an expansion of the Qatar Hamad International Airport, our parametric plywood benches were handpicked to be placed around the VIP business lounge area during the World Cup Event of late 2022.

The VIP lounges at Hamad International Airport are the epitome of luxury travel. These exclusive spaces offer an oasis of tranquility amidst the bustling airport environment. Passengers can unwind in stylish surroundings, enjoy gourmet cuisine, and take advantage of premium amenities such as spa treatments and private shower suites. The airport's recent expansion and renovations in preparation for the FIFA World Cup have further enhanced its luxurious offerings, making it a truly exceptional travel destination.

Our Aevum parametric plywood bench was the perfect aesthetic match for the level of world-class luxury present in this international space. The Aevum is comprised of 217 individual pieces of plywood that lift off the ground at 2 different points before touching back down. Two of our benches are currently being used in this beautiful space, with one of them positioned outside the airport’s Louis Vuitton store.

The Aevum is made from Baltic Birch Plywood, originally sourced from areas in Northern Europe. Naturally a very light brown, the birch wood used in these pieces was prepared in a darker. rich Golden Oak tone. For a piece that lifts entirely off the ground, it is important to have a rock-solid structural system in place to ensure that it always remains safe for use. In this case, the threaded steel rods used to achieve this were covered with chrome-like stainless steel tubing segments which serve to conceal the supports and provide an elegant metallic aesthetic. The ends of these can be seen above at the very outer tips of the piece.
